Perintöosuuden

Perintöosuuden, or inheritance share, refers to the portion of an estate that a beneficiary is legally entitled to receive after the death of a testator. In many legal systems, this entitlement is determined by a will or, in the absence of a will, by statutory rules of intestacy. The size of the perintöosuus can vary significantly based on factors such as the testator's wishes, the number of beneficiaries, and specific legal provisions designed to protect certain heirs, like forced heirs.

In Finnish inheritance law, for instance, there are specific rules regarding the distribution of assets. Children are considered forced heirs and are entitled to a minimum share of the estate, known as the "laglott." This laglott is typically half of the share they would have received if there were no will. Other relatives, such as the surviving spouse, also have defined rights. The perintöosuus is calculated based on the net value of the estate after debts and funeral expenses have been settled. Understanding these entitlements is crucial for both those who are inheriting and those making plans for their estate.
