Penningvärdet, often translated as purchasing power or monetary value, refers to the real value of money, meaning the quantity of goods and services that can be purchased with a unit of currency. It is distinct from the nominal value of money, which is its face value. For instance, if a loaf of bread costs 10 kronor, the nominal value of 10 kronor is one loaf of bread. However, if the price of bread rises to 20 kronor due to inflation, the purchasing power of 10 kronor has decreased, as it can now only buy half a loaf of bread.
