Peltilevyt

Peltilevyt, the Finnish term for sheet metal sheets, are flat metal pieces used as a fundamental material in metalworking and construction. They are produced by rolling to create thin, uniform sheets, with varying thicknesses, widths, and lengths.

Common materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper and brass. Sheets may be uncoated or finished with coatings such as galvanized zinc, epoxy or polyester paints, or anodized or brushed finishes for appearance and corrosion resistance.

Manufacture and fabrication: sheet metal is primarily produced by cold rolling, with hot rolling used for thicker gauges. It can be cut, punched, stamped, bent, or formed through roll forming and pressing to create panels, enclosures, and complex components.

Finishes and coatings: finishes range from powder coating and paint to electroplating, anodizing (for aluminum), and textured or brushed surfaces. Protective coatings extend service life and improve compatibility with other materials.

Applications: peltilevyt are used in building envelopes (cladding and roofing), automotive body panels, household appliances, electrical enclosures, HVAC components and various industrial equipment.

Standards and dimensions: sheet metal is specified by thickness (in millimeters or gauge), width, and length, with tolerances defined by material and process standards. European and international standards (EN, ISO) cover grades, properties and coatings.

Recycling and sustainability: metal sheets are highly recyclable, and recycling reduces energy consumption compared with primary production.
