Pelayo
Pelayo was a Visigothic military leader and the traditional founder of the Kingdom of Asturias, the first Christian kingdom to survive the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in 711. His origins remain uncertain, with historical accounts providing conflicting details. Some sources suggest he was of Visigothic descent, while others propose he may have been a Romanized Iberian or even a Berber Christian. Pelayo is primarily known for his role in the Battle of Covadonga in 722, a pivotal event in the Reconquista.
