Pecatu

Pecatu is a district (kecamatan) in Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia. It is located on the southern part of the island, on the southwestern peninsula and includes coastal areas along the Indian Ocean as well as inland hills. The district borders Kuta and Jimbaran to the north and Ungasan to the east. Its southern edge is defined by the coastline.

Pecatu is best known for a cluster of beaches popular with surfers and sunbathers, including Dreamland Beach, Padang Padang Beach, Bingin Beach, and Balangan Beach. The coastline is marked by high limestone cliffs that frame views of the sea. The area also contains the Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple, a sea temple dating to the 11th century and a major cultural site, often featured in sunset kecak dance performances.

The local economy centers on tourism and hospitality, with resorts, hotels, golf facilities, and beach clubs. The New Kuta Golf course and the Dreamland precinct are part of the long-running Pecatu Graha development, a large-scale resort and residential project associated with the district. The project has experienced delays and controversy but has significantly influenced regional growth and planning.

Access to Pecatu is via Denpasar and Ngurah Rai International Airport in southern Bali, with major roads linking Pecatu to the rest of the island. The area remains a focal point for Bali’s southern tourism corridor.
