Peakfitting

Peakfitting is a data analysis technique used to identify and model individual peaks within a dataset, often applied in fields such as spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry, and signal processing. The primary goal of peakfitting is to accurately determine parameters such as peak position, height, width, and shape, which are essential for interpreting the underlying physical or chemical phenomena.

The process typically involves selecting an appropriate mathematical function—such as Gaussian, Lorentzian, Voigt, or asymmetric functions—to represent each peak. Computational algorithms then optimize the parameters of these functions through curve-fitting methods, often employing least squares minimization, to best match the experimental data.
