Patrullflyg

Patrullflyg, or patrol flight, refers to aerial operations in which aircraft are used to observe and monitor a defined area for extended periods in order to detect, deter or respond to incidents, hazards, or unlawful activity. The term is commonly used in Nordic languages to describe surveillance and patrol missions conducted from the air.

Applications and scope

Patrol flights are used by police authorities for border control, traffic surveillance, crime prevention, and rapid response to incidents. They are employed by coast guards and maritime authorities for vessel monitoring, search and rescue coordination, and environmental surveillance. Military forces conduct air patrols for border surveillance, reconnaissance, and early warning. Civil aviation and emergency management agencies may use patrol flights for disaster response, wildfire monitoring, and humanitarian operations. In many contexts, patrols are complemented by unmanned aerial systems (drones), which can extend coverage or reduce risk to personnel.

Operations and equipment
