Pasfoto

Pasfoto, or passport photo, is a small portrait used on official documents such as passports, national identity cards, visas, and other travel documents. It is intended to provide a clear, unambiguous likeness of the applicant for identity verification and automated facial recognition systems.

Standards typically require a photograph of a specific size, usually around 35 x 45 millimeters (3.5 x 4.5 cm), in color, taken against a plain light background. The subject should face the camera directly with a neutral expression (mouth closed, eyes open) and the head centered. There should be even lighting with no harsh shadows, glare, or reflections.

Accessories and appearance rules are important. Head coverings for religious or medical reasons may be allowed if the face remains fully visible; hats that obscure the hairline are generally not allowed. Glasses are usually permitted if they do not cause glare and the frames do not cover the eyes. The photo should show a true, unaltered representation of the person's appearance; editing, filters, or retouching that change facial features is not allowed.

In many countries, including Indonesia, passport photos conform to international standards set by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), known as ICAO 9303. Studios and official facilities can provide compliant pasfoto. The photo may need to be taken recently (often within six months) to reflect the current appearance.
