Parvola

Parvola is a small, uninhabited island located in the Gulf of Finland, part of the Baltic Sea. Situated approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of Helsinki, Finland, it belongs to the municipality of Inkoo. The island covers an area of around 1.5 square kilometers (0.6 square miles) and is known for its natural beauty, particularly its dense forests, rocky shores, and scenic views of the surrounding sea.

Historically, Parvola has been used primarily for agricultural purposes, including grazing and small-scale farming. The island was also a site of military activity during the 20th century, particularly during World War II, when it was fortified by Finnish and Soviet forces. After the war, the area was demilitarized, and the structures were gradually abandoned.

Today, Parvola is a protected nature reserve, managed by the Finnish Ministry of the Environment. The island is accessible only by boat, and visitors are required to obtain permission from the local authorities. The reserve is home to diverse wildlife, including birds such as the common eider, black guillemot, and various seabird species. The area also features rare plant species and a unique coastal ecosystem, making it a valuable site for ecological research and conservation.

The island’s remoteness and limited accessibility contribute to its preservation, ensuring that it remains undisturbed by human activity. While not open to the public for tourism, Parvola serves as an important ecological and historical landmark in the Finnish archipelago.
