Parvocellularneuronit
Parvocellularneuronit, also known as parvocellular neurons, are a class of relay neurons in the visual system, primarily located in the parvocellular layers of the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) of the thalamus. They represent the parvocellular (P) pathway, one of the two main retino-geniculo-cortical channels that transmit visual information to the cortex. In primates, the LGN comprises six layers, with layers 3 through 6 belonging to the parvocellular division.
These neurons originate from small retinal ganglion cells, the so-called midget cells (P-type). They have small
From the LGN, parvocellular neurons project to the primary visual cortex (V1), where they contribute to fine
Clinical relevance includes deficits in color discrimination and fine detail when the parvocellular pathway is disrupted.
