Parveke-eristeet refer to insulation systems and materials used on balconies to improve thermal performance and moisture control. They can be part of new construction or retrofit projects and may be applied to exterior or interior surfaces, depending on climate and design. The aim is to reduce heat loss from living spaces, minimize condensation, and protect structural elements from moisture and freeze–thaw effects.

Common materials include rigid insulation boards such as polystyrene (EPS or XPS) and polyiso, mineral wool, and, in some cases, sprayed polyurethane foams. Many systems also incorporate a vapor barrier and a drainage layer to manage moisture. Finishes can vary from weatherproof cladding to tiles or protective membranes, depending on the balcony’s use and exposure.

Installation considerations emphasize moisture management, proper adhesion or mechanical fixing, and compatibility with floor finishes and guard rails. Junctions with exterior walls should be detailed to avoid thermal bridging and water ingress. In retrofit work, it is important to preserve drainage and ventilation of the balcony slab and to avoid trapping moisture within joints or gaps.

Maintenance and durability involve regular inspection for cracks, water intrusion, and movement between layers. Damaged elements should be repaired or replaced, joints resealed, and surface finishes maintained to preserve UV and weather resistance. Systems should comply with local building regulations and fire safety requirements.
