Paritytavuja

Paritytavuja, often translated as "parity bits" or "parity bytes," refers to extra bits added to a data stream to ensure data integrity. This technique is a simple form of error detection. In a parity system, a single parity bit is appended to a group of data bits. The value of this parity bit is determined by the number of '1's in the data bits. There are two main types: even parity and odd parity.

With even parity, the parity bit is set to '1' if the number of '1's in the data bits is odd, making the total count of '1's (including the parity bit) even. If the number of '1's in the data bits is already even, the parity bit is set to '0'. Conversely, odd parity aims to make the total number of '1's odd. If there's an even number of '1's in the data, the parity bit is '1'; if there's an odd number, the parity bit is '0'.

When data is transmitted, the sender calculates and appends the parity bit. The receiver then recalculates the parity bit based on the received data bits. If the calculated parity bit matches the received parity bit, it is assumed the data was transmitted without error. If they do not match, an error is detected. Parity checking is effective at detecting single-bit errors but cannot detect errors where an even number of bits are flipped. Due to its limited error detection capabilities, it is often used in conjunction with other, more robust error correction methods or in scenarios where data corruption is less likely.
