Parecer

Parecer is a Portuguese verb with two principal uses. As a verb, it means to seem or to appear, conveying an impression about how something is. It is commonly used to express judgment or inference, as in "O plano parece sólido" (The plan seems solid). The construction "parecer que" introduces a clause reporting what is believed or observed, and the following verb is usually in the indicative, though subjunctive contexts may occur to convey doubt or possibility.

As a noun, "parecer" denotes an opinion or formal assessment, used especially in administrative, legal and academic texts. It is common to say "emitir parecer" (to issue an opinion) or "parecer técnico" (technical opinion). In parliamentary, judicial, or corporate language you may see "o parecer da comissão" or "à parecer de X" to attribute authority to a given assessment.

Conjugation and usage: Parecer is an -er verb with irregular initial forms in the present tense. Standard present forms include eu pareço, você parece, nós parecemos, eles parecem, with regional variation in the second person (tu pareces or você parece). In everyday speech one often uses "parecer que," as in "Parece que ele vem." The pronominal form "parecer-se (com)" is used occasionally to mean "to resemble," e.g., "ele parece-se com o pai," though more common is "parecer com."
