Paranevia is a fictional archipelago and setting used in speculative fiction and world-building. It is imagined in the northern reaches of the Archai Ocean, comprising nine main islands and numerous islets.

The coastline varies from fjord-like inlets to coral shelves and rugged highlands. Biomes range from temperate forests on the larger islands to mangroves on smaller ones. The climate is moderated by sea currents, with wet winters and mild summers.

Paranevia’s history centers on seafaring communities that built protected harbors and traded across the Archai region. It later united as a maritime republic centered in the capital, Neral. In the modern era it maintained cultural autonomy while engaging in regional trade.

Governance is constitutional and multipart. The Parliament of the Isles legislates national policy, while a ceremonial Governor-General represents the federation. A Prime Minister leads the cabinet, with island councils sharing authority on local matters.

The economy centers on fisheries, shipbuilding, ecotourism, and renewable energy, notably tidal and wind power. Paran, a maritime creole, is commonly spoken alongside regional languages. Cultural life emphasizes seafaring traditions, guilds, festivals, and crafts.

Notable features include the Sea of Glass, a shallow, clear-water coast, and the Lumen Trench, a bioluminescent submarine canyon. In fiction, Paranevia is often used to explore sustainable governance and post-colonial regionalism.
