Paperitekniikoista refers to the various methods and processes used in the creation and manipulation of paper. These techniques span from the fundamental methods of paper manufacturing to artistic and decorative applications.

Historically, papermaking originated in China, with early techniques involving the maceration of plant fibers, such as mulberry bark or hemp, in water. This pulp was then suspended in a screen and water was drained, leaving a matted layer of fibers that dried into a sheet of paper. This process, known as the wet-laid method, remains the basis for modern industrial paper production. Variations in fiber source, pulp preparation, and pressing techniques influence the final paper's texture, strength, and opacity.

In artistic and craft contexts, paper techniques involve shaping, layering, and decorating paper. Examples include origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, which creates three-dimensional objects from a single sheet without cutting or gluing. Another common technique is papercutting, where designs are created by cutting away sections of paper, often used in decorative and folk art. Decoupage involves adhering cutouts to a surface and then varnishing them to create a decorative finish. Marbling uses inks or paints floated on water to create swirling patterns, which are then transferred to paper. These techniques transform a simple material into intricate designs and artworks.
