Pankration
Pankration was an ancient Olympic sport that combined boxing and wrestling. Its name derives from the Greek words "pan" meaning "all" and "kratos" meaning "power," suggesting a combination of all fighting skills. The sport was introduced to the Olympic Games in 648 BCE. Unlike boxing, which had strict rules against hitting below the belt, pankration allowed almost any form of striking or grappling. The only disallowed techniques were biting and eye-gouging. Matches were typically fought until one competitor surrendered or was unable to continue, often due to unconsciousness.
The combatants, known as pankratiasts, were usually naked and fought with their hands wrapped in leather thongs
