The control panel, also known as the fire alarm control unit (FACU), is the brain of the system. It receives signals from the detectors, processes this information, and activates the alarm devices. Modern control panels can also communicate with other building systems, such as ventilation and elevator controls, to aid in fire suppression and evacuation. They often provide diagnostic information and can be programmed to manage different zones within a building.

Alarm devices are responsible for alerting occupants. These commonly include audible alarms like sirens and bells, as well as visual alarms such as strobes, particularly important for individuals with hearing impairments. In some cases, the system may also initiate a voice evacuation message through a public address system.
