Palettenformats

Palettenformate, also known as pallet dimensions or pallet sizes, refer to the standardized measurements of pallets used for the transportation and storage of goods. These formats are crucial for ensuring efficient logistics and compatibility between different handling equipment and storage systems. The most common pallet formats are governed by international standards, such as ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and regional standards like those in Europe and North America.

The ISO standard defines six different pallet sizes. The most widely used is the ISO 1 (1200 x 1000 mm), often referred to as the Euro pallet in Europe, although the Euro pallet itself has specific design requirements. Other ISO sizes include 1000 x 1200 mm, 1100 x 1100 mm, 1165 x 1165 mm, 1219 x 1016 mm (which is equivalent to 48 x 40 inches, the standard US pallet size), and 1200 x 800 mm (the standard Euro pallet).

The North American standard, often called the GMA (Grocery Manufacturers Association) pallet, measures 48 x 40 inches (1219 x 1016 mm). This size is prevalent in the United States and Canada. Different industries may also utilize specialized pallet formats tailored to their specific needs, such as those used in the beverage or chemical industries.

The selection of an appropriate palettenformat is determined by factors including the type of goods being transported, the dimensions and weight of the shipment, the transportation methods used (e.g., truck, rail, sea, air), and the storage infrastructure. Adherence to standardized palettenformate facilitates seamless intermodal transportation and automation in warehouses, contributing to reduced handling costs and increased operational efficiency.
