Paksusool

Paksusool is a fictional salt-like compound described in speculative fiction and game settings as a thickening agent that increases the viscosity of water-based solutions. The name combines Estonian paksus, meaning thickness, with sool, meaning salt, and is used in various narratives to signal a mineral with viscosity-enhancing properties.

In most depictions, Paksusool forms pale to white crystals and is moderately hygroscopic, dissolving readily in water. When dissolved, it can interact with certain biopolymers to create a gel-like network, causing viscosity to rise with concentration. The thickening effect is temperature-dependent and generally stable within moderate ranges.

Within fictional worlds, Paksusool is said to occur in subterranean brine deposits or to be produced by controlled crystallization from concentrated solutions. Purification and crystallization methods vary by author, but many settings describe aging processes and careful filtration to obtain a usable grade.
