PaketRegistries

PaketRegistries refer to a family of package registries that host software packages and their metadata for dependency managers. They provide locations where packages can be discovered, verified, and retrieved, and allow projects to configure multiple sources, including public and private registries.

A PaketRegistry stores package metadata such as versions, dependencies, authors, licenses, and provenance. It exposes APIs for listing packages, querying versions, retrieving metadata, and downloading artifacts. Registries may offer search and filtering, while artifacts are delivered with integrity checks such as checksums and optional artifact signing.

Registries can be hosted centrally by ecosystem teams or privately within organizations. They typically implement REST or GraphQL-like endpoints, support authentication via tokens, and offer features like mirroring, caching, and access control by namespace or scope. Some registries support multiple namespaces and dependency resolution policies.

To publish, developers push metadata and artifacts to a registry using a CLI tool or CI pipeline. Projects configure one or more registries as sources; dependency resolvers select versions that satisfy constraints and install the corresponding packages. Registries often provide compatibility with various package formats and clients.

Security and governance considerations include access control, package signing, provenance verification, and vulnerability scanning. Interoperability across registries requires consistent metadata schemas and clear resolution semantics so that different dependency managers can consume the same data reliably.
