The primary categories of weightlifting exercises include compound movements and isolation movements. Compound exercises, such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, overhead presses, and rows, engage multiple muscle groups and joints simultaneously. The choice of exercises, training volume, intensity, and frequency are all adjusted based on the individual's objectives and training experience. Many athletes incorporate Olympic weightlifting movements, like the snatch and clean and jerk, which require significant technical skill and explosive power, into their training regimens.
