Padmavati, also known as Padmini, is a legendary queen mentioned in the epic poem Padmavat written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540. The poem narrates the story of Alauddin Khilji, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, who became obsessed with Padmavati after hearing of her beauty. Khilji attacked the Chittor Fort, ruled by Padmavati's husband, Rana Ratan Singh, with the sole intention of capturing her.
According to Jayasi's poem, Padmavati, a princess of the Chola kingdom, married Rana Ratan Singh of Chittor.
