Padimate
Padimate is a chemical compound that has been used as a sunscreen agent. Its chemical name is octyl dimethyl PABA, or 2-ethylhexyl 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate. It belongs to the class of organic compounds known as para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) derivatives, which are designed to absorb ultraviolet (UV) radiation, specifically UVB rays. Padimate O, a specific formulation, was commonly incorporated into sunscreen lotions, sprays, and other personal care products to help protect the skin from sunburn.
The effectiveness of Padimate O as a UVB absorber made it a popular ingredient for many years.
