PVCplaten

PVCplaten are flat panels made from polyvinyl chloride. They are available as rigid sheets (PVC-U), CPVC sheets with higher heat and chemical resistance, and PVC foam sheets, which have a lightweight closed-cell core. They come in various thicknesses and sizes and may have smooth, structured, or printable surfaces.

Manufacture involves extrusion or calendering of PVC resin with stabilizers, pigments and other additives. Foam variants incorporate a blowing agent to create a cellular core. The resulting sheets are relatively stiff, lightweight, moisture resistant, and easy to machine, cut, drill, and bond. Depending on formulation, UV stabilizers may be added to improve outdoor durability.

Applications include signage and advertising panels, interior and exterior cladding, exhibition stands, display products, and protective covers. PVC-U is commonly used for shop fittings and panels; PVC foam sheets are favored for displays and props due to their light weight; CPVC is selected where higher chemical or temperature resistance is necessary.

Limitations include sensitivity to high temperatures, potential yellowing with UV exposure if unprotected, and environmental concerns relating to chlorine content and additives. PVC can be recycled where facilities exist, but processing requires specialized streams; improper disposal can release toxins.

Maintenance is simple: clean with mild detergent and water; avoid abrasive solvents or acetone; store flat and avoid prolonged sunlight for un-stabilized types.
