Contracts usually span many years and include performance standards, risk-sharing provisions, and mechanisms for renegotiation or termination. The objective is to achieve value for money by combining public oversight with private sector efficiency.

PPPProjekte are used across sectors such as transport (roads and rail), water and wastewater, energy and utilities, health facilities, schools, and digital infrastructure. Benefits commonly cited include mobilizing private capital, accelerating delivery, and transferring certain risks to the private partner; drawbacks can include higher lifecycle costs, project complexity, long-term commitments, and challenges in price transparency and accountability.
