Overdimensioning
Overdimensioning refers to the practice of designing a component, system, or structure with dimensions, capacities, or tolerances larger than those strictly required for expected service conditions. It is common across engineering disciplines and is often motivated by a desire to increase reliability, accommodate uncertain loads, extend service life, or comply with conservative safety factors.
