Ostomates

Ostomates is a group of marine animals that includes the bivalves, gastropods, and cephalopods. This diverse group is characterized by the presence of an ostium, a small opening in the shell that allows for the passage of water and waste. The ostium is a key feature that distinguishes ostomates from other mollusks, such as chitons and polyplacophorans, which lack this structure.
