Orzeczon

Orzeczon is a town and municipality in the fictional country of Veridia, located in the Verdian Lowlands along the Lir River. It has about 18,000 residents and covers roughly 68 square kilometers, serving as the administrative center of Veridia’s eastern province. The name Orzeczon has uncertain origins; earliest records spell it as Orzeczan or Orzeczow, with scholars linking it to river-related terms in the local dialect.

Founded as a medieval market town around 1120, Orzeczon received town rights in 1250 and prospered through timber, grain, and crafts. The railway arrived in the 19th century and the river port expanded industrial activity, while late 20th-century reforms shifted emphasis toward services and logistics.

Geographically, the town lies at the confluence of the Lir and its tributary Maara, in a temperate climate with warm summers and cold winters. Annual precipitation averages 750–880 mm.

The economy centers on logistics, light manufacturing, and services. The river port exports agricultural goods and imports industrial inputs; a small tech incubator established in 2010 supports startups in green energy and hardware.

Culturally, Orzeczon is bilingual in Veridian and the local dialect. It hosts Orzeczon Days, a regional festival of music, crafts, and cuisine, and preserves historic architecture, including a 15th-century town hall and a riverside promenade.

Governance is by a municipal council and a mayor within Veridia’s decentralized system. The town is home to the Orzeczon University of Applied Sciences and several primary and secondary schools.
