Orrduguláscsillapítók, commonly known as nasal decongestants, are medications used to relieve a stuffy nose. They work by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages, which reduces swelling and inflammation, thereby opening up the airways. This makes breathing easier for individuals experiencing nasal congestion due to colds, allergies, or sinus infections.

These medications are available in various forms, including nasal sprays, drops, and oral tablets or capsules. Nasal sprays and drops typically provide faster relief as they are applied directly to the affected area. Oral decongestants, while taking longer to act, can offer more prolonged relief and may be preferred for certain conditions.

Common active ingredients in nasal decongestants include pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine for oral medications, and oxymetazoline or xylometazoline for nasal sprays. It is important to use these medications as directed, as prolonged or excessive use of nasal sprays can lead to rebound congestion, where the stuffiness returns or worsens when the medication is stopped.

Decongestants are not suitable for everyone.
