Orem

Orem is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States, part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area along the Wasatch Front. It lies in northern Utah Valley, north of Provo and west of Lindon, with Utah Lake to the west.

History: The area was settled in the 19th century by Mormon pioneers and developed as an agricultural community. Growth accelerated with the arrival of the railroad and the expansion of the valley’s economy. Orem was incorporated as a city in the early 20th century and has since evolved into a residential and educational hub for the region.

Population and demographics: The city is home to roughly 100,000 residents, making it one of the larger communities in Utah County.

Education and economy: Utah Valley University, a public university, is located in Orem and serves as a major economic and cultural anchor. The local economy includes higher education, healthcare providers, retail centers, and light industry, with many residents commuting to nearby Provo or other Utah Valley communities for work.

Government and infrastructure: Orem operates under a mayor–council form of government and provides typical municipal services, including public safety, utilities, parks, and a public library (Orem Public Library).

Transportation: Major roadways include University Parkway (State Route 52) and portions of Interstate 15. The city is served by public transit from the Utah Transit Authority, with bus routes and connections to the FrontRunner commuter rail network.

Culture and recreation: Orem maintains numerous parks and community facilities and hosts local events that reflect family- and community-oriented life in the valley.
