Oppløsningavrunding, literally “resolution rounding”, refers to the process of adjusting the resolution of a dataset or display to conform to a predefined resolution granularity. In geographic information systems this means altering pixel dimensions or coordinate precision so that the resulting grid conforms to a fixed cell size, typically chosen to match other layers in the analysis. In digital imaging and printing the practice is applied when scaling a raster image, ensuring that the interpolated pixel count is an integer multiple of the target DPI or PPI to avoid fractional pixels. Many software packages implement the operation as either a nearest‑neighbor, bilinear or cubic interpolation followed by rounding the pixel coordinates to the nearest integer. The decision to round down, up or to the nearest value can be user‑specified or dictated by a set of best‑practice guidelines.
