OpenZets

OpenZets is a conceptual framework and set of open standards for decentralized identity and data management. It aims to provide individuals with greater control over their personal information and online interactions by moving away from centralized databases and proprietary systems. The core idea is to enable secure, verifiable, and self-sovereign management of digital identities and associated data.

At its heart, OpenZets proposes a system where users own and control their identity credentials and data, rather than having them held by third-party providers. This is achieved through cryptographic technologies and distributed ledger technologies, such as blockchains. Users would be able to grant granular access to specific pieces of their data to different parties, revoking that access at any time. This promotes privacy and security by minimizing the amount of data shared and the number of entities that hold it.

The framework envisions a network of interconnected decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and verifiable credentials (VCs). DIDs are unique, globally resolvable identifiers that are not issued by a central authority, while VCs are tamper-evident digital attestations that can be verified without relying on a central issuer. OpenZets aims to standardize how these DIDs and VCs are created, managed, and exchanged, fostering interoperability between different decentralized identity solutions. The ultimate goal is to empower users, enhance trust, and create a more privacy-preserving digital ecosystem.
