Olfaktoriás, derived from the Latin *olfactus*, meaning "smelled," refers to the scientific study and understanding of the sense of smell, known as olfaction. This field encompasses the biological, chemical, and psychological aspects of how organisms perceive and interpret odors. Olfaction plays a crucial role in various biological processes, including mating, feeding, and survival, as well as influencing human emotions, memories, and behaviors.

The human olfactory system is composed of specialized sensory neurons located in the olfactory epithelium, a patch of tissue high in the nasal cavity. These neurons detect airborne molecules, which are then transmitted to the brain via the olfactory bulb.
