Oeral

Oeral is a region on the northern coast of the continent of Neridia. It includes lowland plains along the eastern shore and the western Ironback Mountains, where the terrain rises to about 2,000 meters. The climate is cool with variable seasons, milder near the coast and harsher inland. The regional capital is Valmark, and the region is divided into six districts.

Geography and resources: The Silverfjord coastline supports fishing communities and ports. The Ironback range yields iron and tin; mining has shaped local history. The Tarn River watershed supports agriculture and hydroelectric projects. Biodiversity includes conifer forests, alpine meadows, and several endemic birds.

History and governance: Oeral figures in regional lore as a crossroads between coastal traders and inland settlers. It joined the Neridian Confederation in the medieval period and maintains a degree of self-rule. A Regional Assembly elects a governor; the executive oversees administration with several ministries.

Economy and culture: The economy relies on forestry, mineral extraction, and fishing, with growing tourism tied to outdoor recreation and historic sites. Oeralic, the local language, has two major dialects and coexists with the regional lingua franca. Cultural life emphasizes coastal and highland festivals, woodwork, and metalwork.

Infrastructure and sites: A coastal highway and a mountain pass connect inland and coastal towns. Notable places include the Iron Gate ruins, the Tarn Valley protected forest, and the harbor at Valmark.
