Ocklusionsstörningar

Ocklusionsstörningar refer to problems with how the upper and lower teeth bite together. This condition, also known as a malocclusion, can arise from a variety of factors, including genetics, habits like thumb-sucking or prolonged pacifier use, and premature loss of baby teeth. The way teeth align can affect chewing, speech, and the overall appearance of the smile.

There are different types of ocklusionsstörningar. An overbite occurs when the upper teeth significantly overlap the lower teeth. An underbite is the opposite, where the lower teeth protrude beyond the upper teeth. Crossbites happen when some upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth. Open bites are characterized by a space between the biting surfaces of the upper and lower teeth, even when the mouth is closed.

The diagnosis of an ocklusionsstörning typically involves a dental examination, including X-rays and impressions of the teeth. Treatment options vary depending on the severity and type of the malocclusion. Common approaches include orthodontic interventions such as braces, clear aligners, or retainers.
