Népcsoport

Népcsoport is a Hungarian term used in sociology, demography, and cultural studies to denote an ethnic group. It refers to a community that shares a sense of common origin, language, culture, and historical experience. The concept emphasizes cultural and social ties rather than legal status or citizenship. In practice, népcsoport can be identified by language use, traditional customs, music, cuisine, religion, and the memory of shared historical events.

Ethnic groups are dynamic and shaped by processes such as migration, intermarriage, assimilation, and political changes. Membership is often based on self-identification, but can be influenced by external recognition, census categorization, and legal frameworks. Many népcsoport exist as diasporas across national borders, while others are concentrated in particular territories.
