Nätverksdata

Nätverksdata is data that describes, monitors, and analyzes computer networks. In Swedish usage the term can refer to data about the structure and state of a network as well as data produced by network traffic and devices. Nätverksdata encompasses information about network topology and configurations, as well as telemetry and events generated by routers, switches, firewalls and hosts.

Common types include flow data such as NetFlow, IPFIX or sFlow records (source and destination addresses, ports, protocol, byte counts, timestamps); packet captures and metadata; device telemetry and SNMP traps; log entries and security alerts; and configuration or topology data that describes how devices are connected.

Data is collected by exporters, probes, taps or agents and stored in centralized repositories. Formats include NetFlow/IPFIX records, PCAP, JSON, CSV, and proprietary formats used by network monitoring platforms. Interoperability relies on standards such as IETF NetFlow/IPFIX, sFlow, SNMP, and NETCONF/YANG.

Nätverksdata supports network performance monitoring, capacity planning, troubleshooting, anomaly detection, security analytics, and regulatory compliance. Proper analysis often requires time synchronization, data governance, and attention to privacy and data minimization.

Because network data can contain personal information, privacy laws such as GDPR apply in the EU. Anonymization, access controls, retention policies, and data lineage are important. Data quality, storage efficiency, and secure access are ongoing considerations in managing nätverksdata.
