Näppäimistötilat, often translated as "keyboard modes" or "keyboard states," refers to the different functional configurations a keyboard can adopt. These modes allow a single physical keyboard to perform a wider range of functions than its basic layout might suggest. The most common näppäimistötilat include the standard alphanumeric mode, where keys produce letters, numbers, and symbols. Another crucial mode is the function key mode, accessed through a dedicated Fn key or similar mechanism, which activates secondary functions often found on the F1-F12 keys.
