Nyoran

Nyoran is a Japanese indie rock band founded in 2013 in Osaka, Japan, known for blending elements of shoegaze, dream pop, and traditional Japanese instrumentals. The original lineup consisted of vocalist and guitarist Kaito Yamamoto, bassist Riko Nakamura, drummer Haruto Saito, and keyboardist Yui Tanaka. After Tanaka’s departure in 2015, the band continued as a quartet.

The band's debut single “Sakura Echo” was released through indie label Aimee Music in 2014 and gained attention for its lush reverb-laden guitar lines and subtle use of the kōtōshō instrument. Their first full-length album, “Moonlit Horizon,” arrived in 2016, earning a positive review from the Japanese music magazine *Sound Wave* for its atmospheric production and lyrical poignancy. Nyoran followed up with the EP *Waves of Memory* in 2018, which showcased a more experimental side, incorporating ambient electronic textures.

Nyoran has played at major festivals, including the Fuji Rock Festival in 2019 and Coke Live at MTV Tokyo in 2020. They have also toured internationally, performing at SXSW in Austin and the Night of the Proms in Berlin. Critics frequently cite their ability to meld Western alternative rock sensibilities with Japanese musical tradition. Their support fan base is largely concentrated in Japan, yet they have cultivated an international following through their online presence and digital releases.

The band remains active, releasing singles on a quarterly basis and continuing to develop a distinctive sonic identity that resonates with audiences seeking emotive, introspective alternative music.
