Nyerere
Julius Kambarage Nyerere, known as Mwalimu (teacher), was a Tanzanian statesman who led Tanganyika to independence and served as the first president of both Tanganyika (1962–1964) and Tanzania (1964–1985). Born on April 13, 1922, in Butiama, Tanganyika, he trained as a teacher and pursued higher studies in Tanganyika and abroad, including the United Kingdom, before entering politics.
