Nusselti

Nusselti is a small municipality in the fictional Alpine region of Nordmark, in the country of Elaria. It covers about 15 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 2,700 residents. The settlement sits at around 320 meters above sea level, in a valley flanked by mixed forests and agricultural terraces, with a mild, seasonally variable climate.

Etymology: The name is derived from the local dialect term for "nut" combined with a diminutive suffix, reflecting the region’s long association with nut cultivation and processing.

History: First mentioned in records from 1225 as Nusselte, the village developed as a market settlement in the Middle Ages. It experienced industrial growth in the 19th century, focused on nut processing and dairy products, and underwent territorial reforms in the late 20th century, consolidating with nearby hamlets to form the present municipality.

Governance and population: Nusselti is governed by a nine-member municipal council elected every four years; the head is the mayor. The population is predominantly bilingual, with speakers of Nordmarkian and standard Elarian, along with a growing number of residents who migrated for work.

Economy: The economy combines agriculture, especially nuts and dairy, with small-scale manufacturing and agro-tourism. Local cooperatives process nuts into oils, flours, and confectionery. Tourism centers on hiking trails and rustic lodging.

Culture and landmarks: The town hosts an annual Nut Festival in September and preserves a medieval chapel, the Church of St. Michael, atop Nuttery Hill, offering panoramic views of the valley.
