Numonics

Numonics was a company that developed and manufactured digitizing tablets and associated input devices. These devices allowed users to trace or draw on a surface and have that information translated into digital data for use with computers. Numonics tablets were commonly used in fields such as computer-aided design (CAD), graphic design, and scientific data entry. They offered a way for users to interact with digital environments more intuitively than with a mouse alone, particularly for tasks involving precise line work or mapping.

The company was founded in the late 1970s, and its products became popular in the burgeoning personal computer market of the 1980s and 1990s. Numonics offered various models of tablets, differing in size, resolution, and features. Some models included cursors with multiple buttons for selecting options or executing commands, while others could be used with styluses for more freehand drawing. The technology enabled the conversion of physical coordinates into digital signals, which could then be interpreted by specialized software. Numonics ceased operations sometime in the early 2000s, and its products are now considered vintage or legacy hardware.
