It encompasses components of the cell's cytoskeleton that are associated with or influence nuclear functions, as well as specialized structures known as the nuclear cytoskeleton.

The nuclear cytoskeleton plays a critical role in organizing nuclear components, facilitating the transfer of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm, and anchoring nuclear structures. Key elements include the nuclear lamina, a dense fibrillar network composed primarily of intermediate filament proteins called lamins, which underpins the inner nuclear membrane and provides mechanical support.
