Nterminales
Nterminales is a term used to refer to the N-terminal ends of polypeptide chains in proteins, collectively called the N-termini. The N-terminus is defined by the free amino group at the first residue of a protein. In unprocessed proteins, the initiating methionine is typically present; in many cases it is removed by methionine aminopeptidase, depending on the size and nature of the second residue. After processing, the N-terminus may be modified, most commonly by acetylation, yielding N-acetyl-N-termini that are common in eukaryotic proteins.
Nterminales influence protein behavior and fate: they can determine subcellular localization, interaction with other molecules, and
Study and analysis: N-terminomics is the field that identifies and characterizes protein N-termini and neo-N-termini generated
Relevance: Mapping Nterminales helps annotate start sites, study proteolytic processing in development and disease, and improve
