Notendamenntun

Notendamenntun, also known as the Treaty of Westphalia, was a series of peace treaties signed in the 1640s that brought an end to the Thirty Years' War, one of the most devastating conflicts in European history. The treaties were signed in Münster, Osnabrück, and Westphalia, hence the name. The primary signatories were the Holy Roman Empire, France, and Sweden, with Spain and the Dutch Republic also playing significant roles.

The Treaty of Westphalia established the principle of sovereignty, recognizing that states had the right to determine their own affairs without interference from other states or the Church. This principle laid the foundation for modern international law and the concept of the nation-state. It also marked the beginning of the end of the Holy Roman Empire, which was formally dissolved in 1806.
