Transportation relies on a network of county roads; the nearest railway station is about 25 kilometers away. Education includes a primary school and a secondary school; there is a local library.

Cultural notes: The town hosts an annual midsummer festival and preserves the historic Nordtengen Church and a small-town museum. Notable features include the ruins of the old St. Halen Abbey in the surrounding hills.
