These fungi are known for causing diseases that manifest as small, nodule-like growths on plant tissues, often leading to stunted growth, reduced yield, and in severe cases, plant death.

The most notable species in this genus is *Nodulisporium* (formerly classified under *Cochliobolus* or *Bipolaris*), which includes pathogens such as *Nodulisporium* *hormophoeae* (formerly *Cochliobolus* *hormophoeae*), a causal agent of leaf spot diseases in grasses like maize, sorghum, and millet. These fungi thrive in warm, humid conditions and can spread through contaminated seeds, soil, or plant debris.
