Nimelliskatkot

Nimelliskatkot, often translated as "nominal breaks" or "nominal interruptions," refers to a specific legal concept primarily encountered in Finnish law, particularly within the context of contractual obligations and civil liability. It describes a situation where a contract or an agreement is technically breached or interrupted, but the consequences of this breach are deemed insignificant or so minor that the law does not recognize them as grounds for significant legal remedies, such as termination of the contract or substantial damages.

The core idea behind nimelliskatkot is to distinguish between a material breach that fundamentally undermines the purpose of the agreement and a minor deviation that does not. For instance, a slight delay in delivery that causes no demonstrable harm to the recipient might be considered a nimelliskatko.
