Nightwishs

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in Kitee in 1996. The band's sound is characterized by a combination of orchestral elements, operatic female vocals, and heavy guitar riffs. This unique fusion has earned them a significant international following and critical acclaim.

The band was founded by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former vocalist Tarja Turunen. Bassist Sami Vänskä joined shortly after, and drummer Jukka Nevalainen completed the initial lineup. Their early work established their signature symphonic metal sound, drawing inspiration from fantasy literature and epic film scores.

Nightwish's discography includes numerous successful albums, such as "Oceanborn" (1998), "Wishmaster" (2000), and "Century Child" (2002). Their music often explores themes of nature, mythology, and personal journeys, conveyed through Holopainen's elaborate songwriting. The band experienced a significant lineup change in 2005 when Tarja Turunen was replaced by Anette Olzon, who fronted the band for albums like "Dark Passion Play" (2007) and "Imaginaerum" (2011).

In 2013, Floor Jansen became the lead vocalist, and her powerful voice was featured on the critically acclaimed album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (2015) and "Human. :II: Nature." (2020). Nightwish is known for their elaborate stage shows, often incorporating pyrotechnics and orchestral arrangements, further enhancing their theatrical and epic sound. They are considered pioneers of the symphonic metal genre and have influenced many subsequent bands.
