Nightwish

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in Kitee in 1996. The band's musical style combines elements of symphonic metal, gothic metal, and folk metal, characterized by orchestral arrangements, operatic vocals, and heavy guitar riffs. The original lineup featured songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, vocalist Tarja Turunen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, bassist Sami Vänskä, and drummer Jukka Nevalainen.

Nightwish gained international recognition with their second album, "Oceanborn" (1998), and achieved significant success with "Wishmaster" (2000) and "Century Child" (2002). Their lyrical themes often explore fantasy, mythology, nature, and emotional introspection. Tarja Turunen's distinctive operatic vocal style was a defining feature of the band's early sound.

In 2005, Tarja Turunen was dismissed from the band, leading to a period of change. Anette Olzon joined as the new vocalist, and she contributed to the albums "Dark Passion Play" (2007) and "Imaginaerum" (2011). Following Olzon's departure in 2012, Dutch mezzo-soprano Floor Jansen became the band's lead singer. Under Jansen's tenure, Nightwish released "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (2015) and "Human. :II: Nature." (2020), continuing their signature symphonic metal sound with renewed energy and further exploring grand lyrical concepts. The band has released several live albums and compilations throughout their career.
